Secret Sales Christmas Discounts.

As we continue to see details of more and more discounts being sent to us by the retailers in the run up to Christmas, the press have taken notice of these secret sales.
An article in The Daily Mail "Stores staging 'secret' sales as shoppers feel the festive pinch" provides a good explanation and round up of these festive discounts; and they have been good enough to give SendMeDiscounts.co.uk a mention too.
Now that December is upon us there are only about 17 more days left of Christmas shopping and then we will be into the Boxing Day and New Year sales for 2008. But in the meantime keep your eyes on the secret sales as they will continue to Christmas and beyond.

An Upside to Profit Warnings?

This week it has been well reported that DSG, the parent company for the electrical retailers Dixons, Currys and The Link have issued a profit warning. Their profits have reduced due to a "single digit" decline in the sale of White Goods according to their announcement. See The Telegraph
White Goods are those big ticket electrical products that usually reside in your kitchen, such as the Washing Machine, Fridge and Dishwasher, in case you didn't know.
This news comes shortly after Kesa, the parent company of Comet also announced a slow down in sales and identified that its customers had bought fewer white goods than expected in recent months.
So what does this mean for shoppers? On the surface it shows that shoppers are not spending as much as before, maybe this is because of the effect of recent interest rate increases. We are all told that shoppers are using credit more when shopping, this could make buying these goods more expensive.
Of course it could be that shoppers are waiting until after Christmas to buy their new kitchen electricals and are concentrating their spending on entertainment electricals such as iPods and LCD TVs.
One thing that it does mean is that the shops will do whatever they can to increase sales and shift some of the extra goods they are not selling. That might explain why we have just been given details of two Voucher Codes for a Washing Machine and a Dryer from Comet.
The first code offers £30 off ZANUSSI ZWF14070W washer, and the second £45 off HOTPOINT CTD00P Tumbledryer.
I think that it is likely that there will be many more of these product specific voucher codes to follow from the retailers, as they try and sell off any excess stock. So perhaps now is a good time to take advantage of these offers and buy that new appliance while the prices are being reduced.
If this is the case a few more profit warnings could mean plenty more opportunities to find a bargain.
Two other good electrical voucher codes to arrive this week are £500 off Sharp LC42XD1EA at Sharp, and £100 OFF PHILIPS 42PFL7962 LCD TV at Pixmania.

Limited time discounts and offers
An increasing trend for online retailers who offer discounts and special offer promotions including voucher codes, is to offer them for a short and limited period of time only.
With Christmas fast approaching this strategy has become more widespread as shops try to adopt ways of enticing shoppers to buy their presents from them and not their competitors. We have been given a list of offers that will run until the 14th December that reflect this, each offer will run for one day only and then will not be available.
For example:
1. An offer for the 26th November was a voucher code worth 5% off everything at Halfords.
2. Hewlett Packard (HP) are offering a voucher code worth 10% off everything online with free delivery just for today on the 29th November.
3. On the 30th of November Avon will offer free delivery and a free prize draw for Christian Lacroix perfumes for all shoppers who spend over £20 and use the voucher code.
4. Moving on to the 10th December Play.com will give everyone 10% off who spend over £50 and use the voucher code made available for that day only.
These are just a small selection of offers that are available for one day only. There are many other shops and services that are also releasing voucher codes for short periods of time. While releasing them for a day is not generally the norm, offers valid for a week or a month are probably the most common, they do mean that some good bargains are to be had for the quick and sharp eyed bargain hunters.
It is often difficult to check everyday to see who is offering daily promotions, so we suggest the best way to hear about these from SendMeDiscounts.co.uk is to join our discount email alerts, that way you can choose a shop or shops you are interested in and we will email you their offers as soon as they become available.
Otherwise keep your eyes open if you are looking for a discount from somewhere in particular because for this Christmas if you snooze you may well lose!

More Christmas gift ideas

Here are some more Christmas shopping gift ideas.
The Body Shop have released a voucher code for 10% off new purchases. This expires at midnight on the 31st December 2007. Have a look at their Merry Rich Plum Bath and Body products.
Another offer at The Body Shop is a free gift bag worth £16.50 if you spend over £25. It contains 4 products including Mini Satsuma Body Butter and Vitamin E Day Cream, and is automatically applied to your shop after you confirm your order at checkout.
If you are looking for a GPS Sat Nav for a present for someone then Dixons have some good offers on them at the moment. One of their promotional codes will give you an £11 discount on all GPS that costs between £239 and £389, so there is plenty to choose from.
Computers are always popular at Christmas time and HP have a good 10% discount code valid on all products on their website. This offer expires on 31st December, click here for 10% off at HP.
As well as HP, DELL have a good discount code available, this is quite rare as they do not usually release codes. It is valid for 10% off all Dell Notebooks and Desktops.
If you fancy buying a gadget or unusual gift this year why not check out IWOOT (I Want One Of Those) they sell a big variety of items that they claim we don't need but really really want, and with gifts such as a Wi-Fi photo frame, LED Pixel Alarm clocks and Bladerunner remote control helicopters (pictured) they are not wrong! We can get you a fiver off if you spend over £50 which believe me is not hard at IWOOT.

Slouch around this Christmas with the Slouchpod
Back to our gift ideas for Christmas and what with everyone wanting the new Nintendo Wii and Apple iPhone or iPod, we thought we would take a look at something which is useful to all owners of the latest gadgets.
This is the Slouchpod interactive chair. Not only does it serve the necessary function of a chair, ie you can sit on it, it comes with a host of interactive and gadgetry equipment which is geared towards enhancing your gaming or musical experiences.
In other words you sit on it and play your Nintendo Wii or Ipod but the difference with this chair is you plug the console into the Slouchpod and the inbuilt Subwoofer and Surround Sound Speakers give you the full benefit of your slouching experience by immersing you in the action.
It is made from faux leather and is molded so that it has that body hugging bean bag type feel. The electrical wizardry is stowed away on the side and is out of the way, but the speakers are well positioned on either side of your head to give you the full effect of the sounds and music.
The Slouchpod is compatible with the following products:
Xbox, Playstation, Gamecube, PSP, Nintendo DS, Wii, Web TV, Internet, TV, DVD Players, VCR, iPod, MP3 Players, DAB radios, and CD Players.
Our favourite shop for buying this chair is Style for Home and it is currently on offer at just £229 down from £299 a 23% saving. Click here to buy the Slouchpod.
