Food Bills on the increase for UK Families

Research out today has revealed that UK families have to spend an extra £800 a year on grocery bills as food prices soar.

As the price of food and raw materials goes up, the big supermarkets are passing these price increases on to shoppers, the cost of a basket of basic goods including tea and pasta have increased by 15% since last month.

This means a family spending £100 a week on grocery shopping now has to find an extra £780 a year to buy the same shopping. The figures were revealed by MySupermarket.co.uk which monitors the main supermarkets products.

This is on top of the credit crunch which is squeezing the family wallet through higher mortgage payments. In fact costs are rising all over, with energy costs going up and petrol prices increasing.

It is more important than ever for shoppers to shop around to find the best prices to offset these rises.
